TYLER, Texas — A 73-year-old Flint man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for attempting to kill his wife and himself in February last year in their Smith County home.
Charles Ronald Lowrance, of Flint, who pleaded not guilty during a trial, was convicted of aggravated assault against a family member on Thursday. He then received 60 years, according to Smith County judicial records.
Smith County deputies found the husband and wife with gunshot wounds in a home in the 11100 block of County Road 140 in Flint on Feb. 3, 2022. At that time, they were considered to be in critical condition.
Sheriff Larry Smith later said the husband shot his wife in the chest and then shot himself.
Sgt. Larry Christian, spokesperson for the Smith County Sheriff's Office, later identified the husband as Charles Ronald Lowrance and the wife as Sherry Lowrance.
During the trial, his wife testified that she fought for her life while she gasped for air because she was determined to tell things to her children, according to a press release.
The statement said that Charles Lowrance will have to serve at least 30 years before he's eligible for parole.
