UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — An East Texas teacher and coach has been officially identified as the man who was killed during Sunday evening storms.
According to the Clarksville City-Warren City Volunteer Fire Department Chief Derek Zivney, a large oak tree fell on James Kelly Kalinec, 60, of Gladewater, while he was outside his car in the 3500 block of White Oak Road at around 7:30 p.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kalinec was a special education teacher and coach at Linden-Kildare ISD.
He was a 1978 graduate of Chapel Hill High School. From there, he attended Southwestern University - Georgetown.
