LUFKIN, Texas — A toddler is dead following a suspected drowning in Lufkin.
According to the Lufkin Police Department, officials responded to the 500 block of Renfro Dr. around 7 p.m., Sunday on reports a child was found unresponsive in a pond.
Officials say family members started life-saving measures on the boy, identified as Jacob Reyes, 2, and were relieved by first responders once they arrived on scene. The child was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
"Detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation into the incident, determining it to be a tragic accident," the LPD said. "It appears the child had been running around the yard with other young family members and was likely chasing a chicken when he fell into the water. Please keep the boy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers."
