East Texas businesses drop off hundreds of fans at Salvation Army of Tyler

Jamie Lowe, East Texas Refrigeration service manager, said gathering fans for the Salvation Army is a natural fit for the company.

TYLER, Texas — A caravan bringing a cooling breeze blew into the Salvation Army of Tyler Friday afternoon thanks to the efforts of two local businesses.

East Texas Refrigeration and East Texas Generators worked together to gather about 320 fans from the public's donations. On Friday, the businesses' employees dropped off the fans at the Salvation Army of Tyler. The businesses have partnered with the Salvation Army on their "Beat The Heat" heat fan drive for many years. The eight pallets of fans came just in time.

"It is really going to be awesome for our community because we've had a little bit of cool weather right now, but the heat is on next week and it's going to be a great comfort to a lot of people," said Trevesia Chevis with the Salvation Army of Tyler.

Chevis said they have been receiving numerous calls from people wanting fans.

Jamie Lowe, East Texas Refrigeration service manager, said gathering fans for the Salvation Army is a natural fit for the company.

That's our goal and our mission every morning when we get out of bed is to help the community stay cool," Lowe said.

Those interested in receiving a fan can visit the Salvation Army pantry weekdays from 9 a.m. until noon. People can drop by the nonprofit or give them a call.
