TYLER, Texas — As temperatures rise and the ice thaws, several East Texans are taking their vehicle to the auto body shop for repairs.
Many people who experienced care damage due to the winter storm are now seeking repairs. East Texas Collision Repair general manager David Butron said the shop has received several calls and tow trucks bringing in vehicles with suspension damage.
"People out on the roads, especially within the city limits, are damaging their suspension by slipping on ice, hitting curbs, and affecting wheels and tires," Butron said.
Suspension issues are the most common type of damage but auto shops have also seen body damage, particularly to bumpers from spinning out and hitting curbs.
Butron said the current wait time for car repairs is approximately four days, but this may extend in the coming days and weeks.
Despite the rising temperatures and icy roads thawing, caution is advised. Some county and neighborhood roads shaded by trees may still have icy patches.
Butron emphasized safety and urged people to avoid unnecessary outings and be aware of other drivers' actions.
