Two East Texans are looking forward to February for a chance at Super Bowl glory.
The Super Bowl airs Sunday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 p.m. on CBS19, and will feature the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Kansas City Chiefs.
PATRICK MAHOMES II Kansas City Chiefs
It goes without saying Whitehouse native Patrick Mahomes II is the most recognizable face in the NFL.
Mahomes and the Chiefs punched their sixth consecutive ticket to the AFC title game with their win over Buffalo and then took down the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium to clinch a spot in Super Bowl LVIII.
He's is a 2x Super Bowl Champion, 2x Super Bowl MVP, 2x NFL MVP and 6x Pro Bowler.
He and his wife, Brittany, have also struck up a high-profile friendship with Taylor Swift, who's dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Mahomes will look to add to his accolades in Las Vegas.
TRENT WILLIAMS San Francisco 49ers
And last, but certainly not least, we have Longview High School alum Trent Williams, the offensive leader for the San Francisco 49ers.
The 14-year veteran and cancer survivor earned another stripe of gridiron greatness against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Williams and the 49ers pulled off an amazing comeback after being down 24-7 at the half. San Francisco turned on the jets and took down Detroit 34-31 to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Williams is a 3x First-team All Pro selection and 11x Pro Bowler.
In 2022, Williams also joined a special group after he earned a 99 overall rating in Madden NFL 2023. This made him the first offensive lineman to be included in the "99 Club."
As big as the future hall of famer has gotten, he hasn't forgotten about his roots.
The offensive tackle sponsors EKG testing for student-athletes at Longview High School, holds a free football camp for East Texas kids and offers tuition assistance to Longview students seeking dual-credit. In 2016, Williams and Nike got together to donate more than 1,000 pairs of shoes to Longview elementary students.
