East Texans Kacey Musgraves, Cody Johnson earn several CMA nominations

Both artists were named nominees for Album of the Year for their recent musical works.

NEW YORK — Two East Texas country music artists earned nominations at the 2024 Country Music Association Awards.

Golden native and Mineola High School graduate Kacey Musgraves and Sebastopol native and Groveton High School graduate Cody Johnson were both named nominees for Album of the Year for their recent musical works. 

Musgraves earned the nod for her 2024 "Deeper Well," while Johnson received the honor for his 2023 album release of "Leather."

Musgraves and Johnson also each earned a nomination in the Female Vocalist and Male Vocalist of the Year, respectively. 

Johnson received nominations in the categories of Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year for his song "The Painter."  He is also nominated in the Single of the Year category for his song “Dirt Cheap."

Musgraves' third nomination was for Musical Event of the Year for the song “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan that she sings on as well. 

Currently, Musgraves has earned seven CMA awards and Johnson has won two of the honors. 

Texas native Post Malone, who is from Grapevine in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, received four nominations for his collaboration with country singer Morgan Wallen, "I Had Some Help." The song is in Single of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year. 

The 2024 CMA Awards will air on live television on Nov. 20, and it can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
