TxDOT launches "Drive Sober. No Regrets" drunk driving prevention campaign

According to TxDOT, there was an average of 65 alcohol-related crashes per day on Texas roadways, and an average of three deaths per day related to those crashes.

TEXAS, USA — The Texas Department of Transportation announced the launch of its "Drive Sober. No Regrets" campaign.

With Labor Day weekend happening next week, TxDOT is encouraging Texans not to drink and drive by launching its statewide "Drive Sober. No Regrets" drunk driving prevention campaign. They're reminding Texans not to drink and drive, and to always choose a sober ride, such as a designated driver or taking advantage of rideshare and taxi services, public transportation or staying in one location until they're sober enough to drive.

According to TxDOT, there was an average of 65 alcohol-related crashes per day on Texas roadways, and an average of three deaths per day related to those crashes. They added that there were 334 DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes in Texas over Labor Day holiday weekend in 2023, resulting in 14 deaths and 35 serious injuries.

"With all this in mind, TxDOT’s new campaign aims to reduce the number of DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes, injuries and deaths –  especially as more people take to Texas roads for end-of-summer fun and/or the Labor Day holiday weekend," TxDOT said.

They added that July and August are the two deadliest months for drunk-driving fatalities.
