LONGVIEW, Texas — Despite freezing and icy conditions, the Longview Area Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance continued to celebrate the life and legacy of civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
A group of a few participants marched down Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. starting at the Broughton Recreation Center and ending at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Longview, where an interfaith service was held following the march.
Rev. J.T. Harris from the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church of Carthage served as the speaker for the event.
Organizers said it was important to still commemorate the holiday even in snow and ice because they want people to remember what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is all about.
They added that the 2024 march was the first time they marched in snow.
