TYLER, Texas — Police say an East Texas man under investigation for sexually assaulting a woman was found with 29 videos of child pornography on his phone earlier this month.
According to judicial records, Nathaniel Connor Mitchell, 22, of Flint, was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 7, for possession of child porn (fewer than 500 visual depictions) and released from the Smith County Jail the same day on a $500,000 bond.
An arrest affidavit revealed officers searched Mitchell's phone while looking into claims he raped a woman at a Tyler apartment complex in October.
The woman told police Mitchell gave her a drug substance that caused her to lose consciousness. She recalled waking up to Mitchell sexually assaulting her. Later, the woman says she texted a friend to pick her up. The friend found the woman visibly scared, the affidavit said.
Following an interview with the woman, police obtained a search warrant for Mitchell's residence and phone. On Nov. 2, officers were told several files containing child pornography, including children from infancy to pre-teen years, were discovered on his phone.
The affidavit does not mention if police have interviewed Mitchell yet. Tyler Police Department spokesperson Andy Erbaugh says the investigation is ongoing.
