CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A call about an active shooter at Del Mar College Thursday morning was found to be a hoax, according to Corpus Christi police.
Del Mar College sent an emergency alert to students about a possible active shooter on the Heritage campus on Baldwin Ave. at 10:28 a.m.
The message asked everyone in the area to shelter-in-place until reports of a shooter can be verified.
Corpus Christi police have since cleared the campus, and the source of the call is under investigation, according to CCPD.
Calls to other community colleges and universities also were called in Thursday, according to reporting at other Tegna Texas affiliates.
A call was made to Tyler Junior College in Tyler, as well as Collin College in Plano and Galen College of Nursing School in San Antonio.
Calls to Baylor University and Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth also were reported.
It is unclear whether the calls are connected.
This is the second time in three weeks that a hoax call has been made, affecting the Del Mar College campus. On March 23, a call reporting an active shooter was made to Collegiate High School. It was also determined to have been a hoax.
Refugio County dispatchers took an call reporting an active-shooter event at at Woodsboro ISD at about 10:45 p.m. It has since been determined to have been a hoax, the district stated in a letter Thursday morning.
The Refugio County Sheriff's Office and the Woodsboro Police Department continue to investigate the incident after the latter agency cleared the school.
