LONGVIEW, Texas — The city of Longview will move forward with developing the specific plans needed to construct a new Stamper Park pool.
Some council members, though, voiced concerns during Thursday's meeting about a potential pool partnership under discussion with Longview ISD. School district voters this year gave approval to build an almost $42 million natatorium. The district has determined the facility will be built across Airline Drive from the main high school campus, where the former Henderson house is located.
A divided Longview council voted earlier this year to build the pool at Stamper Park, where one had been decades earlier. That vote came after the council decided to close and tear down the Longview Swim Center because of the high cost of repairing the pool combined with limited access at its Pine Tree High School location.
