Equipment failure at treatment plant causes wastewater spill in Nacogdoches

Officials say the environmental threat is minimal.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Crews are working to make repairs after an equipment failure caused a wastewater spill in Nacogdoches Friday afternoon. 

According to the city of Nacogdoches, a bypass happened at a manhole near the City of Nacogdoches Wastewater Treatment Plant into Lanana Creek in excess of 100,000 gallons. Officials say the environmental threat is minimal. 

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and other Nacogdoches city officials have been notified about the incident, according to the city.

The bypass happened because of an equipment failure at the treatment plant. City of Nacogdoches Water Utilities Department staff are making emergency repairs.
