Minnesota man killed after two-vehicle wreck on US Highway 69 in Cherokee County

The investigation is ongoing, DPS said.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — A Minnesota man was killed Monday afternoon after a two-vehicle wreck during wet road conditions in Cherokee County.

Nicholas Schintgen, 44, of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, was driving south on US Highway 69, while a 2011 Freightliner Truck Tractor, which was driven by Nelson Terrell,  38, of Houston, was towing a trailer and traveling south as well on US 69, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said Terrell was driving at an unsafe speed for the road conditions, lost control of the vehicle and struck Schintgen's vehicle, which then left the roadway and hit a tree.

Schintgen was pronounced dead at the scene. Terrell was not taken to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing, DPS said.
