Cow in roadway causes deaths of 2 East Texas motorcyclists

Jerry and Michael Moore, both of Tatum, were both driving motorcycles last week when they collided with a cow in Rusk County.

RUSK COUNTY, Texas — Two East Texas motorcyclists were killed last week after both crashed into a cow that was in the roadway in Rusk County.

On April 23 just before 2:30 a.m., Jerry Moore, 58, was traveling south on County Road 2142, six miles west of Tatum when he reportedly struck a cow that was in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at a Tyler hospital, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

Roughly five minutes later, Michael Moore, 53, struck the same cow that was in the road and was ejected from his motorcycle. Michael Moore was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS said. 

DPS says the investigation is ongoing.
