LONGVIEW, Texas — Texas' Sixth Court of Appeals has upheld the prison sentence for the first defendant to go to court in a Longview ISD abuse case involving special needs students at J.L. Everhart Elementary School in 2021.
Paula Dixon Hawkins, who will turn 61 this month, pleaded guilty in October to 11 counts of injury to a child contained in three indictments. Hawkins is a former teacher's aide at J.L. Everhart.
Judge Scott Novy of the 188th District Court sentenced her to eight years in prison on each charge to be served concurrently.
