Gregg County commissioners propose 7% tax increase to offset parking garage project, other capital improvements

The previous tax rate was set at 27.8 cents per $100 in property valuation. The new rate would increase that figure to 29.8 cents per $100 in property valuation.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Gregg County property owners could see a moderate increase in their taxes in order to cover the costs of voter-approved infrastructure projects and other upgrades at county facilities.

County commissioners on Monday approved a proposal for a 7% increase in the county’s ad-valorem tax for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. That includes the increase voters approved in November 2023 as part of a bond measure to fund construction of a new downtown parking garage.

The previous tax rate was set at 27.8 cents per $100 in property valuation. The new rate would increase that figure to 29.8 cents per $100 in property valuation.
