$5,000 worth of damage reported in house fire in Tyler

The homeowner was able to get the fire controlled before fire crews arrived on the scene to extinguished the fire, officials said.

TYLER, Texas — Fire crews extinguish house fire caused in Smith County Tuesday evening.

According to the Smith County Fire Marshal Terry Linder, the fire began in the kitchen of a house located in teh 11000 block of County Road 166 in Tyler.

The homeowner was able to get the fire controlled but firefighters arrived to make sure there wasn't any hotspots he missed, Linder said.

Linder said no injuries were reported but estimates $5,000 worth of damage.

At this moment, the Smith County Fire Marshal is on scene and investigating the fire. 

The cause of the fire was from cooking, Linder said.
