KILGORE, Texas — Many high school students use the school library as a quiet place to study, to find a good book or to simply enjoy a quiet break from their busy schedules. Kilgore High School librarian and campus digital media specialist Annaleigh Herrin had a vision for something even better: a collaborative space where KHS students and faculty could put their heads together and fuel their creativity with coffee.
“I wanted the KHS library media center to be an inviting place where students and teachers felt inspired to collaborate on projects, read, make new friends and showcase all of the wonderful things going on around campus,” Herrin said.
“My vision was and is for our library to be the ‘heart’ of the school that connects us all together. A calm, coffee shop ambience is just one way of inviting our school community into this space. With the money we make from our sales, we will give back to our students in the form of new technology, new equipment like 3-D printers, special events hosted by the library to elevate the learning experience, and new books and resources.”
