Henderson County opens 2 buildings as shelters for those in need after storms

Thunderstorms brought significant damage to buildings, trees and power lines in the Coffee City area.

COFFEE CITY, Texas — Henderson County has opened two buildings for people impacted by storm damage to use. 

According to the Henderson County Facebook, the Coffee City Civic Building and the Henderson County Senior Center in Athens, located at the Regional Fair Park, are both open as shelters. 

Thunderstorms brought significant damage to buildings, trees and power lines in the Coffee City area. 

Henderson County Judge Wade McKinney issued a declaration of local state of disaster Thursday night because of the widespread damage caused by the storm. Disaster declarations help the county become eligible for help from state agencies.
