LUFKIN — Officials are investigating after a fire was set to the chip aisle at an East Texas Walmart.
According to the Lufkin Police Department, an officer was called to assist the Lufkin Fire Department with a fire at the Lufkin Walmart, located at 2500 Daniel McCall Drive, late Monday night.
Police say it appears the fire started around 11:20 p.m. in the Ruffles section of the aisle.
Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze.
The incident filled the store with smoke.
An female employee told investigators she saw man black man, wearing gray pants and a long-sleeved t-shirt, walk into the store and angrily argue with a customer over a parking spot. The man was reportedly driving a blue Chrysler 300.
She said the man was cursing and yelling about the parking lot incident.
He was seen leaving the chip aisle roughly 30 seconds before the fire began.
The fire is believed to be arson and remains under investigation.
