City of Whitehouse declares local state of disaster

All public meetings not required by law have been suspended.

WHITEHOUSE, Texas — Whitehouse Mayor Charles Parker declared a local state of disaster for the city Tuesday.

The city has implemented a number plans to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

All city meetings, with the exception of City Council, Planning and Zoning, and other meetings required by law, are postponed. The city is working to do video conference options to allow the public to participate in the meetings outside the logation.

All sports events at any Whitehouse fields or facilities are suspended. The Whitehouse Public Library is also closed indefinitely.

Mayor Parker released the following statement in a press release:

“This is an important declaration for a serious and changing situation Whitehouse, our neighboring cities and Smith County all recognize the importance of prudent and proactive actions at this time. We need all citizens and businesses to do their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We also ask that our citizens follow the county example in spreading facts, not fear”. The City will continue posting updates online. We have been in contact with Meals on Wheels and they continue to provide service to their clients in the community. They are still delivering and allowing pickup of meals but are not allowing clients to congregate at the center until further notice. We are appreciative of the critical service Meals on Wheels provides to our neighbors. City offices remain closed to the public, but our Council and Staff are committed to ensuring service continues in a manner that is safe for the public and our employees. #SpreadFactsNotFear"
