City of Tyler gives updates on cleanup after Tuesday's severe storms

With more than 50 work orders so far, crews are working overtime to get these streets cleared as quickly as possible.

TYLER, Texas — After Tuesday’s storm caused damage to several areas across East Texas, the City of Tyler is working to clean up the damage as quickly as possible.

"We have a lot of tree damage, a lot of large limbs, a lot of trees uprooted, some very large trees uprooted and we’ve still got a couple that are tangled in the powerlines and cords. We’re waiting on Oncor, of course, but that’s really the extent of it and a lot blown down in the streets," City of Tyler Streets Supervisor Tyler Vickers said.

Some residents in the area had firsthand experience of a large tree being uprooted in their yard.

"It looked like some of the neighbors around the neighborhood had some serious damage, particularly one across the way like that big tree," Tyler resident John Armstrong said.

Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday a tree was uprooted, thankfully the homeowner was away at the time.

"When they came back, the tree was on its side," Armstrong said.

It's not just the streets that need clean up; homes have seen damage from this week's storms.

"A bunch of limbs, and sticks, we got them up pretty fast but Tyler is a very special place, I was born and raised here and I don’t want it to hurt," Tyler resident Alicia Armstrong said.

With more than 50 work orders so far, crews are working overtime to get these streets cleared as quickly as possible.

"Feel free to call the Tyler streets department or powerlines down call the police dispatch. Let them know what the situation is and they will get in contact with us. We have guys that are on call 24/7 that will go check it out and take care of the situation," Vickers said.

The City of Tyler Solid Waste Department said they can pick up debris, trees and tree limbs free of charge; however, pickup is limited to 50 pounds and 4-foot bundles.
