City of Tyler hosts 'State of the City' luncheon, discusses water infrastructure plans

Over the next five years, the city of Tyler plans to spend more than $22 million to replace aging water lines.

TYLER, Texas — The city of Tyler hosted the annual State of the City luncheon on Thursday. Mayor Don Warren outlined plans to replace water lines all across the city, including major investments in Tyler's infrastructure.

"A lot of these water lines have been in the ground since 20s, 30s, 40s they've been there a long time and so it’s time to replace those," Warren said.

Ryan Dixon, founder of True Vine Brewing Company, said his business relies on clean drinking water.

"Water is definitely a big part of our processes, from our cleaning all the way to our products and our beers," Dixon said.

Over the next five years, the city of Tyler plans to spend more than $22 million to replace these water lines.

Warren said they are working to prevent a water main break like the one on April 22 that prompted a boil water notice for thousands of residents.

"We are building another elevated tank. It’ll help us keep pressure in the water line and so if we do have a break. That’ll help," Warren said.

The city is also planning to replace all water meters within the next 20 years.
