LONGVIEW, Texas — Neither COVID-19 nor delayed delivery of electrical components nor stalled steel shipments stopped the biggest project in Longview's 2018 bond election from crossing the finish line.
An open house 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday will mark the completion of the city's almost $24 million new police headquarters. The police department will soon relocate from the home it's occupied since 1977 at 302 W. Cotton St. to its new home at 518 W. South St.
The project was completed about a year behind schedule, but it's in budget despite the complications brought about by COVID-19, said Kevin Chumbley, Longview's assistant public works director and the person responsible for overseeing the contract with WRL, the firm hired to build the new facility.
