City of Longview awards contract for long-awaited Mobberly Avenue project

The city council recently awarded a more than $6.5 million contract to True Roads to transform Mobberly from a five-lane road to a three-lane road with bike lanes.

LONGVIEW, Texas — The sidewalks on Mobberly Avenue are a mishmash of sometimes smooth, sometimes precarious and sometimes nonexistent walking paths that cross sometimes crumbling, uneven driveways.

They'll be the first thing to go, and then be rebuilt better, when the Mobberly Avenue Complete Street project begins in the coming months.

The Longview City Council recently awarded a more than $6.5 million contract to Hallsville-based True Roads to transform Mobberly from a five-lane road to a three-lane road with bike lanes and improved sidewalks. The total project cost is $8 million, including non-construction costs such as right-of-way acquisition. The project will be paid for with $5.2 million in funding from the 2018 bond election and a $2.8 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.
