CHAPEL HILL, Texas — Students from campuses within Chapel Hill ISD are hosting their annual word parades this week.
The word parade is an annual tradition in the lower CHISD campuses that encourages students to pour through their dictionaries and thesauruses to choose a word that will "rival all words." Students even design costumes to match their word.
Each students is also given a "Vocabulary Word Map" to complete as they learn more about their word.
Jackson Elementary is hosting a slightly different event, which they call "Storybook Parade," that encourages students to dress as their favorite storybook character.
The events and their times are:
- Jackson Elementary: Friday, November 1st at 8:30 a.m.
- Wise Elementary: Friday, November 1st at 8:15 a.m.
- Kissam Intermediate: Friday, November 1st at 9:30 a.m.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading and the creativity that stories inspire. By dressing up as our favorite characters, we not only bring literature to life, but also foster a sense of community and fun among our students," Judy Carpenter, principal at Jackson Elementary, said. "The parade encourages imagination, boosts confidence, and promotes a love for books, which are essential for lifelong learning,"
