RUSK, Texas — A Cherokee County constable has been indicted on an assault charge for allegations of intentionally hitting another man with a vehicle in 2021.
Cherokee County Pct. 4 Constable James "Jamie" Quinten Beene was indicted on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge on Oct. 30, 2023 in connection with the incident that happened on Oct. 26, 2021.
The indictment alleges that on Oct. 26, 2021, Beene intentionally, recklessly or knowingly caused serious bodily injury to another man by hitting him with a vehicle. The grand jury also determined that during that incident Beene used the vehicle as a deadly weapon.
Rusk County Sheriff Johwayne Valdez said that Beene turned himself Rusk County Sheriff's Office officials on Nov. 9 and then posted bond soon after for the charge out of Cherokee County.
In a Facebook post on Nov. 8, Beene announced he would be seeking reelection for the Pct. 4 constable seat. He has been constable since 2009.
