TYLER, Texas — The winner of the 2024 Tyler Cattle Baron Ball's raffle prize was awarded the keys to a brand new 2024 GMC Canyon Tuesday, donated by Hall Buick GMC.
Kim Updike, the winner of this year's raffle, has been a supporter of the Cattle Baron's Ball since 2007, and bought three tickets for $100 each. She said the truck came at a perfect time, being awarded after Updike recently moved out to the country and after her 14-year-old car was beginning to show its age.
This is the 17th year the Hall family has donated a customized truck to raise money to support the American Cancer Society.
"People like Pam and Monte, they've been donating a vehicle for the past 17 years," Updike said. "That's a really cool testament to their beliefs."
The Tyler Cattle Baron's Ball has successfully raised over $17.5 million for the American Cancer Society since 1988. Pam Hall, the owner of Hall Buick GMC, said the decision to support the fight against cancer was personal.
"My mother died of cancer young, and I always said if I was ever able to I was going to give back in every way I could to the cancer society," Hall said. "Many of my cousins, aunt, uncles, there's been a lot of cancer in our family too many people die young with babies behind."
