Carthage to rename softball field after slain Panola County sheriff's deputy

The city of Carthage plans to rename a softball field at its sports complex after slain Panola County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Dickerson.

Carthage City Commissioners unanimously voted at their Jan. 27 meeting to change the name of Field No. 10 to honor Dickerson based on a recommendation from the park board.

“That was the field that he coached on with his daughter and did all that,” City Manager Steve Williams said.
