AFFIDAVIT: Canadian woman accused of arms smuggling in Angelina County harboring four stolen guns, 18 total weapons

Jahtaya O'Day Jah-Kiara Hamilton, originally from Ontario, Canada, is currently in Angelina County Jail after being detained for possession of a prohibited weapon.

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas — Editor's Note: The video above originally aired Nov. 7.

An Angelina County Sheriff's deputy arrested a woman Wednesday suspected of engaging in multi-national arms smuggling.

Jahtaya O'Day Jah-Kiara Hamilton, originally from Ontario, Canada, is currently in the Angelina County Jail after being detained for possession of a prohibited weapon.

Hamilton was a passenger in a Lyft ride that was pulled over for speeding. Upon the discovery of a marijuana odor within the car, the deputy searched the vehicle, finding two large bags in the trunk.

Hamilton originally claimed both bags belonged to her, but later said they belonged to her boyfriend when officers asked her to open them. She was unable to answer who her boyfriend was when questioned by police.

Upon a search, officials found 20 handguns, magazines, ammunition and a short barrel rifle. Multiple pistols found in the bags were reported stolen within the Houston area. It is both a state and federal felony to have a short barrel rifle.

Deputies determined Hamilton had flown into Houston, obtained the guns, and was planning to bring them back to Canada. The Lyft ride was supposed to take her to Little Rock.

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office reported the following handguns recovered from the vehicle:

  • Glock 17 Blk 9mm
  • Glock 19 Blk 9mm
  • Sig Sauer P365
  • Ruger LCP 380
  • American manufacturing rifle AM-15
  • Taurus 9mm
  • Sig Sauer 9mm Para
  • Glock 17 gen 5 9mm
  • Firefly 22 cal
  • Millennium PT14 Pro
  • Ruger 9mm
  • Glock 27 40 cal
  • Taurus PT909 9mm
  • SCCy CPX 9mm
  • Sig Sauer SP2022
  • Glock 19 9mm
  • 80 percent ARMS 9mm
  • Springfield XD 10

Of the guns, the Glock 17 Blk 9mm, Glock 19 Blk 9mm, Sig Sauer P365 and Ruger LCP 380 were determined to be stolen.

Hamilton was arrested and charged with four counts of theft of firearm and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. The ATF is now continuing the investigation.
