Caldwell Arts Academy unveils new mural from nationally recognized artist

Smith describes his work as "Tex-Mex," drawing upon inspiration from his time growing up in southern Texas with bright colors and festive pieces.

TYLER, Texas — Caldwell Arts Academy in Tyler will unveil a new mural during their Middle School Meet the Teacher Night.

The mural was designed by Brady Smith, a nationally recognized author and illustrator, who will be in attendance during the mural's unveiling Thursday at 5 p.m. Smith describes his work as "Tex-Mex," drawing upon inspiration from his time growing up in southern Texas with bright colors and festive pieces.

“We are excited to partner with the City of Tyler and Caldwell Arts Alliance to bring Brady Smith, an illustrator and actor, to create a unique mural inside Caldwell Arts Academy,” Bobby Markle, principal of Caldwell Arts Academy, said.

Smith's mural is part of a larger goal to create 50 murals across 50 cities to be published in a book. Smith chose Tyler because of his time spent attending Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and growing up in Houston.
