TYLER, Texas — A Tyler nonprofit has a initiative that aims to keep people cool and hydrated during the summer, but volunteers are struggling to keep up with the demand.
Tyler Transit users and passersby may notice a water cooler and inviting sign at a few bus stops throughout the city. The Bus Stop Water Project is made possible thanks to nonprofit Worthy Ones.
“Our neighbors in the East Texas area, specifically Tyler, are suffering in the summer months,” the organization’s website states. “There are hundreds of people using the public transportation system to get around daily and they are waiting for these buses in the hundred degree weather. This can quickly become a health hazard. Many different people from the older to the very young, are waiting upwards of an hour for their bus to arrive at the stop while the Texas heat weighs on them.”
