BULLARD, Texas — Documents allege an East Texas man charged with grooming and multiple other offenses inappropriately touched some of the six juveniles, who he harbored inside his home, and offered them vibrators.
Randy Lloyd Smith, 47, of Whitehouse, is charged with enticing a child, harboring a runaway, two counts of grooming, tampering with a witness and six counts of purchasing alcohol for a minor.
Bullard police arrested him Wednesday afternoon following an investigation in which police found six children, including a runaway, on July 25 at a residence in Bullard. He was booked into the Smith County Jail on bonds totaling $1.475 million.
According to an arrest affidavit, the investigation began when officers were searching for a reported runaway teen, but when police made contact with Smith, they found numerous juveniles along with the runaway in the home. Smith claimed the children were friends with his child (who was not present at the time) and the runaway was dropped off in the middle of the night.
During an interview, the runaway said one of the other juveniles in the home invited the runaway to Smith’s residence, and that night a person picked her up and dropped her off at Smith’s, the affidavit read.
The juvenile who invited the runaway to the home asked if they wanted to have sex with Smith. The runaway declined, and the juvenile responded “you don’t know what you’re missing out on.” The same juvenile told the runaway Smith bought them a vibrator, a Stanley cup and Nike shorts, according to the document.
The runaway told police they thought this juvenile was trying to sell the runaway to Smith for vapes and alcohol, the affidavit said.
One of the other children said Smith offered to buy them a vibrator, but they declined. Smith told this child to not tell anyone about purchasing a vibrator. This juvenile said Smith talked about their appearance and touched them inappropriately as well, the affidavit stated.
In another interview, a juvenile said they saw Smith touching another child inappropriately. The juvenile reported that Smith bought the children Coors Light, Michelob Ultra, Yaeger, Malibu liquor, vapes and a vibrator for one of them, the document read.
One of the juveniles told police that Smith picked the runaway up from their residence. Video confirmed that Smith’s vehicle was in the area where the runaway lived. In a police interview, Smith denied multiple times that he picked the runaway up, but later he said two of the children convinced him to bring the runaway to Bullard, the affidavit explained.
Smith told the children to not talk about the vapes and alcohol he bought. He told one of the children, “you better have my back because I spent a fortune for y’all to have fun,” the affidavit said.
While at the residence, the runaway told police they were told to run out of the back of the house if law enforcement ever showed up, the document read.
Police say that officers contacted the children's parents and they were released to the parents from the scene
