TYLER, Texas — Brookshire Grocery Co. is accepting applications for veterans to be a part of the relaunched Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods Heroes Flight trip to Washington D.C.
The company said it's excited to relaunch the program after it was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since its start in 2010, the Heroes Flight Program has taken over 500 veterans from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas to D.C.
BGC is seeking 25 veterans to attend the trip from Oct. 21 to 23 for the 20th iteration of the event. Veterans from World War II and the Korean War as well as those who served in the Vietnam War, Gulf War, War in Afghanistan and War in Iraq will get to be a part of the all-expenses paid trip.
Applications for the program can be completed here. The deadline is June 28.
Veterans on the trip visit the World War II Memorial and tour the U.S. Capitol with Congressman Nathaniel Moran. Other stops on the schedule include Arlington National Cemetery, the Air and Space Museum and memorials honoring the U.S. Marines, Navy, Air Force, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., and Vietnam and Korean War veterans.
"We are deeply honored as a company to take our military veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor,” said Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. “This journey is our way of expressing profound gratitude and respect for their sacrifices. One of our community pillars is to give back to the brave men and women who have given so much to our country, and this opportunity allows us to show our appreciation in a meaningful way. We are especially excited that we will have veterans representing multiple conflicts sharing this experience together.”
BGC employees, including several who have also served in the military, will join the veterans on the trip to assist them.
