TYLER, Texas — Brookshire Grocery Co. employees stopped by the East Texas Food Bank along with a huge donation.
The company donated over $80,000 worth of fresh produce. That is approximately 40,000 pounds of fresh produce to help provide hunger relief in the local communities that the food bank covers across East Texas.
“Leading into the holidays, just such a special time, people are going to be gathering with their families,” David Emerson, CEO of East Texas Food Bank. “People are going to be needing more food, and so having this fresh fruits and vegetables available is going to be tremendous to our families in need here in East Texas.”
The donation is an extension of BGC's 43rd annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive program. Through Dec. 17, all Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market and Fresh by Brookshire's store are accepting donations of non-perishable food items that will be donated to local service organizations and food pantries. A customer can also make a monetary donation at checkout.
