Police arrest man accused of killing 18-year-old woman found behind Tyler apartment complex

Deja Hood's body was discovered in a creek bed behind one of the buildings at the Hollytree Apartments around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

TYLER, Texas —  A man has been arrested in connection with the death of an 18-year-old woman who went missing Monday night and was found dead behind a Tyler apartment complex the Tuesday afternoon.

Tyler Police Department spokesperson Andy Erbaugh confirmed the arrest of Jamaurea Jermaine Britton, 19, of Tyler, for the death of Deja Hood.

Britton was booked into the Smith County Jail for murder and terroristic threat of a family member/household. His bond has been set at $1,050,000.

Hood's body was discovered in a creek bed behind one of the buildings at the Hollytree Apartments around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Before she was found, her family said she was last seen with Britton.

"She was voluntarily down here, to our knowledge," said Erbaugh. "That’s what we know, is that she was down here. According to the family, she was picked up by this man, brought here, and then he’s the last person to see her"
