GALVESTON, Texas — The Battleship Texas was on the move again Thursday morning.
The iconic battleship was relocated to Pier A from Pier D at the Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair as it enters the next phase of its restoration.
The ship returned to the water just six months ago.
Since August 2022, the ship has undergone extensive repairs at Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair’s shipyard including:
- Replacing over 700 tons of steel
- Painting the hull
- Performing successful quality control checks
- Partial removal and replacement of wood decking
- Partial superstructure repair
- Blasting and painting up to the superstructure
- Partial restoration and replacement of anti-aircraft guns
- Almost 300,000 man-hours logged to date
