TYLER, Texas — A local East Texas artist is preparing a mural inside Broadway Square Mall for tax-free weekend.
Kerian Massey is the artist behind the mall's latest artistic installment. Her design features a giant octopus holding a back-to-school banner, welcoming families to shop during tax-free weekend ahead of students' return to the classroom.
She shared this photo of what the mural will look like when it's completed:
"Paintings are always ugly in the beginning, you can't ever really tell what they are," Massey said. "So people just come over and they're kind of curious what it is, and there is only one perspective in which you really get the picture from."
Massey's mural will be displayed in the Broadway Square Mall over the weekend. Come Monday, it will be removed and placed into the mall's archive, making this a limited-time spectacle.
