ARP, Texas — Students, parents and veterans in the Arp community came together Monday morning at their high school to honor U.S. military veterans.
Local veterans were recognized by the Arp ISD students and teachers. Students showed their gratitude to veterans with speeches and poems. The younger generation of third, fourth and fifth graders graced the stage to sing a couple of military songs. Staff and students both thought this was a great learning experience for everyone.
"It was very good, but it's important because it helps our students understand that our freedoms are not free, and it helps us all learn the history of Veterans Day and some of the music that's related to Veterans Day," Arp High School Principal Amy Herrell said.
Arp High School senior Madelyne Eaton said it was a major learning experience to hear from local veterans.
The program wrapped up with the playing of Taps by the Arp Tiger ensemble band as veterans recalled their brothers and sisters that they lost in conflict.
