LONGVIEW, Texas — East Texas animal advocates have accused the operator of a now-defunct rescue of abusing animals and fraudulently collecting donations to care for animals she didn’t have.

Nine Chances Rescue, based in White Oak, has been the subject of intense scrutiny on social media. Animal rescuers say Lindsey Murrell, the woman who started the non-profit group, deceived people who donated to her rescue and failed to care for animals properly.

Law enforcement officials have received reports about the rescue, though no agencies have reported finding violations.
