SHERIFF: Angelina County deputies seize 20 kilograms of meth during routine traffic stop

In total, ACSO believes this seizure removed several hundred thousand dollars worth of meth from the streets.

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas — A traffic stop in Angelina County ended in deputies seizing 20 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Alex Aguirre, 27, of Fort Worth was detained by Angelina County deputies during a routine traffic stop around 2 p.m Friday, according to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office. Aguirre was reportedly driving 76 mph in a 55 mph zone, which lead deputies to pull him over. Deputies found Aguirre to be driving the vehicle along with a 7-year-old boy who Aguirre claimed was his son, and observed that Aguirre was "extremely nervous, fidgety and breathing heavily."

During the course of the conversation, Aguirre told deputies he was transporting meth and consented to a search of the vehicle. Deputies allegedly found two black plastic garbage bags in the floorboard containing 20 individual zip-close bags containing what deputies recognized to be crystal meth. Aguirre was arrested and the drugs were transported to the sheriff's office. Each plastic bag was found to contain 1 kilogram of meth each, for a total of 20 kilograms.

ACSO said the total value of this quantity of meth is believed to be in excess of $4,000 per kilogram, and when sold in individual use packages of 3.5 grams (typically referred to as an '8 ball') sells for about $70 each. In total, ACSO believes this seizure removed several hundred thousand dollars worth of meth from the streets.

Aguirre is currently awaiting arraignment in the Angelina County Jail.
