TYLER, Texas — The Andrews Center is presenting the East Texas Mental Health Summit Tuesday at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center in Tyler.
The free event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. and will include three guest speakers: Texas Council of Community Centers CEO Lee Johnson, Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute President and CEO Andy Keller and Cheryl McCullumsmith, who is the chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at UT Tyler.
Texas Council of Community Centers represents the 39 community centers across the state. Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute is a Texas-based nonprofit giving nonpartisan policy and program research, development, and advice to local, state, and national leaders toward improving mental health care delivery across the country.
McCullumsmith has a master's degree and doctorate degree in psychiatry. She has published over 40 papers and book chapters with a total of almost 1,400 citations. Her work focuses on systems for psychiatric care that works, including preventing suicides.
Andrews Center Behavioral Healthcare System is a nonprofit comprehensive mental health and intellectual and developmental disability center. The center serves as the local mental health authority for five counties: Smith, Wood, Rains, Van Zandt and Henderson.
