TYLER, Texas — With the winter months approaching, East Texas area professionals are sharing tips on winterization.
"Winterization refers to the process of preparing a home for the colder months to conserve energy, enhance comfort and prevent potential damage caused by winter weather conditions," said Brandon Moore, Smith County Emergency Management Coordinator.
According to the Texas Comptroller's website, 69% of Texans lost power at some point during 2021 Winter Storm Uri from Feb. 14 to 20, and almost half had disruptions in water service. The storm contributed to at least 210 deaths, and the state's storm-related financial losses are estimated from $80 billion to $130 billion.
