5 hospitalized, including 2 firefighters and 1 police officer, following East Texas house fire

GUN BARREL CITY, Texas — Five people were hospitalized following a house fire in Gun Barrel City.

According to the Gun Barrel City Fire Department, on Monday, Oct. 21, around 7:15 p.m., officials responded to a home in the 400 block of Masthead Rd.  When crews arrived on scene, they saw visible, heavy smoke coming from the residence and learned two people were trapped in the house.

First responders entered the home and rescue both victims, one who was in a back bedroom and another who was in a separate room.

One person was flown to a Dallas hospital for treatment. The other was taken to a local hospital.

Per the GBCFD, two firefighters and one police officer were taken to a nearby medical center and treated for smoke inhalation. 

The house suffered smoke and water damage. and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
