DPS: 2 motorcyclists killed following crash on bridge over East Texas lake

CBS19 will update this article as more information is released.

HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas — **EDITOR'S NOTE: The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department initially reported three deaths. The Texas Department of Public Safety has since clarified there were two.

Two motorcyclists were killed after a wreck involving four vehicles near an East Texas lake Sunday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, motorcyclists John Berkley, 52, of Athens, and Levi Lott, 32, of Tyler, were killed after a crash between a pickup truck and three motorcyclists. The wreck happened on State Highway 198 near Payne Springs, on a bridge over Cedar Creek Lake.

William Coker, 45, of Eustace, was driving north in a pickup truck on SH 198, while three motorcycles were traveling south on SH 198. Coker's truck drove on the wrong side of the roadway and struck the motorcycle that Berkley was driving, DPS said.

Another motorcyclist Cody Jordan, 25, of Chandler, was hit by debris and then Coker's truck struck Lott's motorcycle. This caused Lott to be thrown over the bridge into the water, according to DPS. Lott was later found deceased.

Berkley was pronounced dead at the scene. Jordan did not need to be transported to a hospital. Coker and his passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment, DPS said.

A Texas Parks and Wildlife Department statement originally reported that three motorcyclists were dead; however, officials have confirmed two motorcyclists were killed in the crash.

CBS19 will update this article as more information is released. DPS said the investigation is ongoing.
