2 in custody, victim safe following reported kidnapping in Smith County

The investigation is ongoing.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating following a reported kidnapping that occurred Sunday afternoon.

According to the SCSO, around 4 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a kidnapping in the 11700 block of FM 2015. 

When officials arrived on scene, they were told a man had been taken from his home at gunpoint by two men. Authorities say the suspects demanded money then left the scene in a red vehicle. 

Investigators were notified, responded to the location and were able to gather enough evidence to lead them to the DFW area.

"Smith County investigators established contact with both Arlington and Ft. Worth Police Departments in their attempts to locate the victim," the SCSO said. "Through ongoing efforts, Investigators were able to provide Ft. Worth police with additional information concerning the location of suspects. Officers with Ft. Worth [police] were able to locate the suspect vehicle and take the suspects into custody. The victim was also located and appeared to be physically unharmed."

Smith County officials are heading to Fort Worth to take custody of the suspects and bring the victim home.
