2 East Texas men killed after head-on collision in Anderson County

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas — Two East Texas men were killed after a head-on collision in Anderson County late Monday night.

Abimael Santillian, 21, and Tanner Perez, 19, both of Palestine, were pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle they were in veered into the northbound lane of State Highway 19 and struck another vehicle head-on around 11 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said Santillian was driving the 2006 Toyota Tundra when for an unknown reason, he veered from the southbound lane and into the northbound, striking a 2025 truck tractor towing a trailer, which was driven by Mohamed Simpara, 29, of Brooklyn, New York.

Simpara did not need to be taken to the hospital. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the Santillian family following the loss of Abimael Santillian, who leaves behind his mother, younger sister, younger brother and his 2-year-old son. The funds raised will go directly to the family.
