2 East Texas high school teams become state cross examination debate champions

Ore City's Sadie Bonnett and Amir Sultan earned first place in Conference 2A. Isaac Hoch and Cooper Rich, of Athens, took home the Conference 4A championship.

AUSTIN, Texas — Two East Texas high school cross examination debate teams became UIL state champions earlier this month. 

Ore City's Sadie Bonnett and Amir Sultan earned first place in Conference 2A. Isaac Hoch and Cooper Rich, of Athens, took home the Conference 4A championship. 

Individually, Sultan received sixth place in the speaker awards. Hoch earned a silver gavel (second place) in the speaker awards and Rich earned a bronze gavel (third place) in Conference 4A.

Shelbyville High School students Travis Caporali and Maddie Lout received the silver medal in Conference 2A. 

Ore City students Markham Rosenburg and Makayla Knapp were one of the two third place teams in Conference 2A, while Kynlee Bright & Brody Miller, from White Oak High School were among the two third place teams in Conference 3A. 

Michael Dubuisson and Ian Bard from Atlanta High School earned fifth place in Conference 3A and Pine Tree High School students Travis Johnson and Aiden McQueary received fifth place in Conference 5A.
