2 killed after two-vehicle crash in northeast Smith County

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Two people were killed after a pickup truck collided with a SUV early Thursday morning in Smith County.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Adam Albritton, the crash happened around County Road 384 and FM 2908 around 6:30 a.m. An SUV was going northbound on FM 2908 when the driver of a pickup truck going east on CR 384 disregarded a stop sign. 

The pickup driver then went into FM 2908, causing the SUV to crash into the pickup. Because of the collision, the two passengers in the pickup died, Albritton said. 

Drivers of the SUV and the pickup were both taken to Tyler hospitals for their injuries. Identities of those involved in the crash have not been released yet. 

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
